About Buried Blonde: Lauren came up to Whidbey Island from LA to finish her second solo studio album in 2018. Once lockdown began in 2020 she was already writing songs fit for a band but with no ability to find other musicians in a live setting in a new place, she taught herself to record, released a few demos online under the band name and was contacted by local venues to have her band perform for livestreams. She panicked, as she was the only member of the band.
Having met, performed and recorded with local lead guitarist Nick Kurtz prior to lockdown, they began the search for a rhythm section. Once restrictions eased up they quickly found one. Within months they took 4 songs to Robert Lang's studio in Shoreline and recorded an EP with engineer/producer Jesse Field. "What Now?" is currently being mixed and set for a Spring 2022 release.
Buried Blonde is:
Lauren Flynn, Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar/Songwriter/Co-Producer: Lauren began her music career as a vocalist and quickly picked up rhythm guitar in order to write and perform solo. Her influences include bluegrass, hip hop, pop and art/noise rock. She has released 2 solo studio EP's ('Bad Decisions in the Daylight' & 'Theory of Mind'), one self produced EP ('Outside One Girl') and two singles including a cover of Talking Heads 'This Must Be The Place' with 5-time Grammy winning engineer, Alfonso Rodenas (Los Tigres Del Norte). Her song 'Beyond This Moon' was featured in the 2019 web series "Coffee House Chronicles". Lauren is a former professional wrestler and studied stand up comedy in LA under Greg Dean while building her live performance skills on stages throughout southern California.
Nick Kurtz, Lead Guitar/Back-up Vocals: Hailing from Knoxville, TN, Nick Kurtz has been irrationally obsessed with music ever since he could walk. He started playing guitar as a teenager, quickly garnering a reputation as one of Knoxville's taller guitarists. Nick spent years on the original and cover circuits, making records and sharing stages with numerous national acts. In 2015, in an effort to ascertain how far northwest a human being could move while remaining in the contiguous United States, he found himself in Seattle and eventually found his way into Buried Blonde. A music major, he's been known to give guitar lessons if provoked, and can be seen at shows channeling light and magic through his magnificently calloused fingertips.
Mike Holm, Drums: Mike started his musical journey in 1999 singing in The American Boychoir. As an alto, he toured both nationally and internationally, developing his magnetic stage presence and his ability to emotionally connect with an audience. In high school, Mike happened to sit behind a drum kit for the first time and before long a tiny drummer grew in his brain, relentlessly tapping on his skull. Originally self-taught, Mike took jazz drum lessons in college but the tiny drummer wanted to rock. Upon moving to Boulder, he started a cover band called the Trash Pandas and started gigging regularly on the bar/event scene. His promotional and marketing chops quickly built the Pandas a regular following, but the band didn’t survive the Covid pandemic. Moving to Seattle in 2021, the search for kindred spirits led Mike to the Hidden Door blues jam, where Nick and Lauren noticed his passionate dexterity and calm professionalism. Nicholas Welles, Bass: Nicholas splits his time between Buried Blonde and PNW-based melodic death metal band Materia Obscura. Known for arriving to rehearsal with a different bass each week, he rounds out the line up bringing a welcome heavy element to the Buried Blonde arsenal.
Jeff Nelson, Drums (live alternate through Spring 2022) - We are fortunate to have a second drummer to support us at live performances while Mike is out on paternity leave. Jeff is the drummer for Whidbey based jam band, Dr. Chef. A drummer for over two decades, his influences include hip hop, drum and bass and djent. He is currently studying Drum Performance at Musicians Institute.
Jesse Field, Studio Engineer/Co-Producer/Studio Bass - Jesse is an engineer who was instrumental in creating the Robert Lang Studio Academy in Shoreline. His passion and enthusiasm for music is paralleled only by his ever-growing collection of vintage gear. Initially insistent on self-producing, Lauren quickly recognized Jesse's intuitive & mindful approach to the songs in the studio on the first Buried Blonde EP and we are grateful to have Jesse's experience & talent as part of the team. In addition to working with some of the fastest rising bands in Seattle, Jesse is also a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
